The store is a replica built on site in 1976. It was constructed of old red cypress and Louisiana long leaf pine and is an example of briquette entre poteaux (bricks between posts). The exposed wiring in the store is typical of the first wiring when electricity came to Acadiana. Between the years 1860 and 1900 the old country store was the main gathering place in most small communities.

Upon entry through the main gate, all visitors are directed to the General Store to pay admission and to receive a map, which describes each home/building on the tour. Oh! and don't forget to ask about receiving your official Acadian Village Honorary Citizen Proclamation. Admission and group rates available.

Visitors are encouraged to walk around the store and browse among the variety of Louisiana souvenirs. Take home an authentic Cajun cookbook, T-shirt, Mardi Gras beads or Cajun & Zydeco CD.
